Suburb Profile: Byford
08/11/16

Byford is situated 33km from the CBD, in the Shire of Serpentine-Jarrahdale. Serpentine is named after the Serpentine River, which was named to describe the "serpentine" nature of the river in its lower reaches, while Jarrahdale is named after the Jarrah forest. Originally named ‘Beenup Townsite’ in 1906, the name was changed to Byford in 1920 due to the resident’s dissatisfaction with the town name. The suburb of Byford was recently voted one of Australia’s most family friendly towns. Only a short distance away is a range of local parks and the popular tourist destination; Serpentine Valley. An assortment of amenities are already established in Byford including schools, shops and medical centres with more to come over the next few years.

Over the last twelve months, the average house sale is between $401,000 to $500,000.

Couples with children make up over half of the household types in Byford. This correlates to the predominant age group being 0-14years. Byford has become popular for young families seeking the semi-rural experience - wide open spaces whilst remaining a short drive to all the amenities.
